Q: On this date in 1986, Clint Eastwood was elected mayor of his adopted hometown, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Eastwood served one two-year term as mayor of the tiny artist’s community, supporting business interests while also advocating environmental protection and construction of additional public facilities and infrastructure. He also fulfilled the promise he made while campaigning for the office, which was to overturn a town ordinance banning eating ice cream cones in public. Unlike fellow actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, who put his Hollywood career on hold while serving as governor of California, Eastwood was still able to continue his acting and directing career during his mayoral term. He directed two films during that period, one of which eventually earned him a Golden Globe win for Best Director. Name the two films Clint Eastwood directed during his two-year term as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
